MINNEAPOLIS, MN—Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will open the Radisson Blu Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, in March 2013. All 500 guestrooms in the hotel, which is directly connected to the Mall of America, are fashion-inspired. The property also features 26,300 sq. ft. of event space, a fitness center with an indoor pool and the FireLake Grill House & Cocktail bar.

Graven Images’ Jim Hamilton was in charge of interior design. The entryway to the hotel features backlit windows designed to evoke an artful interpretation of fireflies on a summer night. The lobby, decorated with a black and white color scheme accented with deep blue, also features clean-lined seating and glass paneling. The back wall was designed to resemble tissue paper in a shopping bag, while the lobby rug is meant to be reminiscent of the topography of the Minnesota lakes. The centerpiece, a beehive-like seating arrangement, is suspended in the air.

Guestrooms come in three styles: 29 “Mansion House” suites, 54 business-class rooms and 417 standard rooms. All feature a minifridge, coffeemaker, laptop-sized safe and complimentary WiFi.

In keeping with the Mall theme, the hotel offers a shopping program for all guests.

Construction of the $137.5-million structure began in May 2011 by Mortenson, a construction services company. Carlson and Mortenson are equity partners in the hotel.
